These goals were set to drive the improvement of social, environmental and economic conditions worldwide by 2030 and ultimately end poverty. In 2014, the founding couple Torsten and Aida Schreiber saw the urgent need for energy supply in Africa's off-grid villages and developed a mobile solar system, the Solartainer, with their steadily growing team.<\/p><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Aida and Torsten's founding story:<\/span><br \/>The idea for Africa GreenTec was born in June 2014, when Aida and Torsten Schreiber were invited by the Malian president to take a look at the country's energy supply. After visiting a 20-megawatt diesel power plant in Mali's capital Bamako, their lives changed. The power plant they visited dates back to the 1960s and, together with two other diesel power plants, is responsible for base load control in Mali's metropolis of millions. It burns 170,000 liters of diesel every day with an efficiency of just about ten percent and an outside temperature of 45\u00b0 C in the shade. All this in a country with an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine a year. The diesel has to be delivered 1,500 kilometers from the Senegalese port of Dakar every day in 10 articulated lorries on a broken road.<br \/>As a climate protection activist and social entrepreneur, there was no more sensible idea for Torsten than to get involved in the renewal of such plants. Burning diesel for electricity in countries with so much energy from the sun was and is grotesque. AGT AG is responsible for the development and production of the system components for the ImpactSite, as well as for the planning and coordination of the projects (component and system providers). Africa GreenTec Asset GmbH issued a bond in 2017 and coordinates the management of the solar containers financed by the bond in Mali (system owner). Our business model is intended to stand on its own two feet economically and meet the local people at eye level. Unlike a traditional company, however, Africa GreenTec pursues a sustainable business approach. This is a company that not only pursues financial\/economic goals, but also social and ecological goals in line with the triple bottom line of sustainability.\u00a0<\/p><p>The situation is different for emergency aid or projects that are not intended to make a profit. The Africa GreenTec Foundation e.V. was founded to provide support in this area. The non-profit organization collects donations and CSR budgets to provide aid after disasters as well as projects for education and equality. Our prices and wages are adapted to the respective local conditions and calculated in such a way that an ImpactSite can be operated and maintained as economically as possible. In this way, we ensure that our projects do not fail after a few years, but are sustainable in every sense.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, profits and turnover are a means to an end for us - not an end in themselves. Our aim is to promote not only the provision of electricity but also the applications that build on it. These include drinking water treatment, enabling cold chains, internet access, energy-efficient end devices, street lighting, modern machinery for businesses and the promotion of education. It is therefore important that an infrastructure exists or is built in the village to help people achieve these goals. For us, this means that there is a school, a hospital and small businesses. With our mobile solar systems, we generate clean electricity where it is needed, namely in communities that are far away from the central power grid. We set up a state-of-the-art mini-grid to give people access to the energy generated and provide sustainable and modern equipment to use the electricity efficiently. Smart meters are state-of-the-art electricity meters that receive and send data and measure and control the flow of electricity. Each household has its own connection with such a smart meter. In this way, we ensure reliable pre-paid payment transactions and that every family and every business only pays for the electricity that has been booked and consumed. There is a lot of talk about Africa GreenTec and over a million people already follow us on social networks. As a result, the initial contact with a new potential ImpactSite or C&amp;I project is diverse. We receive requests directly from the community, companies or an entire region, from governments, ministries of a country or from organizations that are committed to the electrification of the rural population or the fulfillment of SDGs.\u00a0<\/p><p>We examine every potential location for an ImpactSite very carefully. The distance to the national power grid, the distance to a paved road, the number of inhabitants, the distance between the houses, the regulations in the country and the financial feasibility all play an important role. In the first step, we use satellite images to assess the size, population and structure of the community. The next step is a personal visit to the village with our technical and communications teams. The technicians take a very close look at the conditions, including generators, solar systems, etc. that private or business people are already using. Our communications team begins with initial surveys to determine the specific electricity requirements of the community and therefore the size of our system. We have established an intensive sensitization process right from the start, for which we hire employees with language and cultural skills from the respective regions. Raising awareness and informing our customers is one of our most important tasks. People in the villages often have little experience with electricity. We hold information events and individual customer meetings in the village before and after the ImpactSite goes live. We explain how electricity can be used safely and efficiently and how the tariff system works. We also provide advice on which appliances can be used sensibly with which tariffs. Without the support of local stakeholders, our vision would be difficult to realize. We also achieve this by creating local jobs and set up a national company in every country in which we are active. Their employees are responsible for the planning, logistics, implementation and maintenance of the projects in the country. In addition, we employ at least two employees for each of our ImpactSites directly on site, who take care of maintenance, security and customer support. In this way, we create highly qualified jobs in the country and in the communities.<br \/>We are also planning a climate-neutral and pioneering headquarters in Dakar (Senegal), including a fully comprehensive production and training center. Many of our employees are already on site and are ensuring the transfer of knowledge from Germany to Senegal so that we will soon be able to manufacture all products locally, train new employees and operate logistics locally.<\/p>                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t                    <div class=\"item\">\n                        <div class=\"details \">\n                            <div class=\"summary\">\n                                <p class=\"title\">How is the solar power in the villages paid for by the customers?<\/p>\n                                <span class=\"icon\" data-rotate=\"0\"\n                                      style=\"transform: rotate(0deg)\"><\/span>\n                            <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"text\" style=\"display: none\">\n                                <p>There is at least one responsible employee on site for each ImpactSite. This person takes care of both technical maintenance and sales processes. Customers pay the prepaid tariff they have chosen to the local employee. The employee then has the option of topping up the customers' meters using their cell phone.<br \/>There is also the option of topping up their own meters independently and cashlessly via Mobile Money. This solution is very popular and, in addition to quick and easy processing, ensures better payment security for both the customer and the operator.<\/p>                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t                    <div class=\"item\">\n                        <div class=\"details \">\n                            <div class=\"summary\">\n                                <p class=\"title\">Is the electricity protected against theft?<\/p>\n                                <span class=\"icon\" data-rotate=\"0\"\n                                      style=\"transform: rotate(0deg)\"><\/span>\n                            <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"text\" style=\"display: none\">\n                                <p>Our customers' electricity consumption is recorded by the electricity meters (smart meters) and billed automatically. To ensure that the smart meters are not simply bypassed or tampered with, they are installed high up on the posts of the electricity grid. This is the most effective protection against theft. We also measure all the electricity fed into the local electricity grid and can thus determine the losses in the electricity grid based on the difference to the total consumption of all electricity meters.\u00a0<br \/>If a fraudulent customer does manage to bypass the electricity meters and obtain electricity directly from the grid, this would result in higher losses.
