Bananso – Great Potential Thanks to Solar Energy

The community in Bananso was electrified in 2019 with a Solartainer® Amali. Electrification triggered an economic growth spiral in Bananso and electricity demand increased sharply within a few years. Many small businesses run electrical appliances and many households can also afford their own fans, refrigerators, televisions, etc. Due to the ever-increasing demand for electricity, it quickly became worthwhile to install a second Solartainer in Bananso to give even more people access to electricity. In November 2021, the two Amali Solartainers were replaced by a 150 kWp ground-mounted solar system and a containerized battery storage system, with a maximum storage capacity of 384 kWh.

Between High Rivers and Mountains

Bananso is located in the Sikasso region, south of a river surrounded by mountains. The large gold deposits in and around Bananso are the reason for the many mines operated here. This attracts quite a few seasonal workers to the area, especially in the dry season. In the rainy season, however, the river, bridged by the path leadingto the main road, becomes a real challenge.

Outlook – What's Next for Bananso?

Many of the machines in the gold mines are powered by diesel. We are currently in talks to change this. Since such machines need a lot of power, the implementation is time consuming. However, our goal remains to power the machines in Bananso with clean solar energy as well.
